Configuring eQSL on Ham Radio Deluxe

I had joined eQSL.cc also known as eQSL.net and had manually been sending eQSL cards to contacts I had been making. Then I thought I wonder if it is possible to send them automatically from HRD Logbook. To my surprise it is!!!

To configure it there is a two stage process.

  • You need an eQSL account and then make sure you are running HRD Logbook.
  • Then go to Tools>Configure>eQSL.cc

You are then presented with a dialog box that you should fill in your Username, Nickname (if you haven't configured that in eQSL leave it blank) and password.
You can put in a QSL message.
Also make sure you check the box Upload every time and entry is added to the logbook,

Automatic uploads to eQSL.cc

Ordinarily you would think that is all you have to do. In practice I found that didn't work and after a little fiddling around found that the 2nd stage of the process is this:

  • Open the ALE (Add logbook entry)
  • Click options>QSL defaults
  • In the resulting dialog box check the box next to eQSL and set the pulldown to Yes
  • Click OK
  • Click cancel

COnfiguring the ALE (Add Logbook Entry)

All you have done is set the defaults when using ALE.

Now when you use data modes where the log are entered automatically AND manually using the ALE then you find that there is an outgoing message sent to your eQSL account.

You can see what is happening by clicking the Layout button in the logbook and configuring it to show all the eQSL columns. One of the columns is eQSL status.
When you make a new log entry you will see this as a "Result: 1 out of 1 records added..." next to each QSO.

Bulk upload to eQSL.cc

If you want to bulk send all the QSOs in your logbook to eQSL simply select them all (select the first one and then Ctrl A to select all) and then click the QSL button.
On the toolbar you will see a More.. button. Click it and then select eQSL.cc>upload.
The elusive More.. button

  • Make sure your username, nickname and password are populated.
  • Enter a QSL message
  • Ensure the Save Password box is checked.

eQSL dialog box

  • Click OK and then you will see a log entry from each record you are uploading.
  • When it is finished click Cancel and you are done.

Any duplicates that you may have already sent will show up in the eQSL status field as "Warning: ... Bad record: Duplicate..."

Receiving eQSLs.

If you want to update the database with eQSLs you may have received from contacts you again click the More.. button.

  • Then click eQSL.cc>Download

eQSL download box

  • In the resultant dialog box again make sure your credentials are present.
  • Change the date to an earlier date.
  • Click Download from eQSL.cc and, providing you have any waiting eQSL cards, the log will show some data.
  • Click Update Matching QSOs button and it will then update your database changing eQSL received status from No to Yes where applicable.

All in all very easy to do and great if you are chasing any awards.
