Wouxun KG-UV950P review - Part 7 - Out of band transmission WARNING

Out of the box this rig is capable of transmitting out of band, assuming you have a resonant antenna, which I found odd especially as it was of UK spec.
There is a Windows program available from a few dubious sites on the internet called KG-UV950P-FrqLmt
I downloaded a copy of this software to have a look at the system defaults on my rig.
 KG-UV950P-FrqLmt executable

As can be seen
  • on the 144M band the rig can transmit from 136 to 179MHz.
  • on 29M band you can transmit from 26 to 30MHz (this covers the CB band)
  • on 450M you can transmit from 400 to 479 MHz
  • on 50M you can transmit from 50 to 54MHz

To stay within the terms of you license you need to either be aware that the rig can transmit out of band or programme it with the software.
I changed my rig
  • to transmit on TX Lower 144 to TX Upper 146 which will transmit up to 146.9975 MHz. In the UK if you have a full license, as I have, and a Notice Of Variation from Ofcom, you can transmit on the 146 to 147 MHz band.
  • On 29M I left it at the defaults 28 and 29 MHz
  • On 450M I changed it to TX Lower 430 and TX Upper to 439 so I can transmit only between 430 and 439.9975 MHz.
  • On 50M I changed it to TX LOwer 52 and TX Upper 53 so I can transmit only between 52MHz and 53.9975MHz

Out of band transmission assumes that the tuned circuits in the rig are capable of such frequencies and you also have antenna systems resonant on those frequencies too. I was taking no chances.
